In a recent interview with Brazilian movie site Omelete, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder revealed whether the film will take place in the same superhero universe as Batman. (As postulated by the above in-joke from I Am Will Smith’s Legend, naturally.)
Definite SPOILERS ahead.
Omelete sister site Collider has the news and the answer is…maybe.
While Snyder did not reveal the presence of Batman in the forthcoming Man of Steel, he did mention that there is an easter egg visual in the film that could conceivably place Superman and Batman in the same world. Specifically:
“The Wayne Enterprises logo is on a satellite that Zod destroys.”
Which we imagine Morgan Freeman’s Lucius Fox getting endlessly upset about.
Following the success of Marvel’s slate of Avengers-related films, Warner Bros. has tentatively been testing the waters for a Justice League movie, originally scheduling it to go head to head against Avengers 2 in 2015. The viability of such a film currently depends on how well Man of Steel does in resurrecting the Superman character (and franchise) for the big screen.
The satellite easter egg appears to be inspired by the same caution. If Man of Steel does well then Wayne Enterprises is real, if the movie flops, well… must have been some other “Wayne Enterprises.” The director then offered this thought on how the two heroes might find themselves in cahoots.
“Don’t forget that Lex [Luthor] is out there, doing who knows what…”
